Love nature and hiking? Try a vacation to New Zealand with its bountiful natural attractions and the world's best hiking trail.
Fiordland is composed of fourteen fjords and is classified in rankings with that of the Grand Canyon. It was formally recognized by the United Nations in 1986 as a World Heritage area.
"The Greatest Walk in the World", is on the Milford track and takes four days to cross. It is only 34 miles long but you have to account extra time, as it crosses rugged land and fjords. It is one of few hikes in the world that offer overnight accommodations. You have to go on the guided route for access to this though. A guided trip will provide hot showers, food, and shelter with a bed. This expands this track's do-ability to most people. Fishing and kayaking opportunities will arise along the trail also. Hunting, biking, and pets are not permitted. It's just you and nature. Make reservations for the walk. There is a limit on how many hikers get in each day so that everyone has the opportunity to walk alone in peace.
"Eight Wonder of the World" will be in sight as you come to the end of your hike, the Milford Sound. Milford Sound is surrounded by thick rainforest and cliffs 4000 feet tall. What a way to feel small fast. It is an accessible place, but preferably by boat tour. Numerous boat tours go there each day. There are heavy rains and dozens of waterfalls.
Dusky Sound is the largest fjord in Fiordland National Park. It is 25 miles in length and 5 miles wide. This area is civilization free. Seals and dolphins are commonly sighted wildlife in this area. In the rainy seasons, Dusky Sound has literally hundreds of waterfalls.
Doubtful Sound is the second largest fjord of New Zealand's park. Dolphins, seals, and even a variety of penguins have been spotted here. It fluctuates between clear sunny spots and a misty lagoon feeling.
Words and pictures can only express so much. Many people describe this place of having an energy and spiritual quality of it's own. If you're looking for a variety of nature to immerse yourself in, Fiordland National Park is the place.
