The Texas State Parks Pass: How to Come Out Ahead
Texas has some of the most majestic scenery in all of the 50 states. One of the best ways to enjoy the scenery is through the use of the extensive state parks program.
Well, for starters, every purchase of the state parks pass helps support the Texas state parks system. The price for the annual pass comes in right at $60, a price that has been unchanged since the program's inception in 2004. The pass actually replaced the old Texas Conservation Passport program.
So what do you receive for your contribution to the great Texas Parks and Wildlife organization? For starters, you get four coupons for 50% off one night of camping in any state park. Now, this might not seem like much, but over a period of a year, using all four coupons will be easy.
In addition, you get the entrance fee waived for the card holder as well as anyone in the car with them (up to 15 persons). This is a great benefit, as many of the fees for adults can range from $3 per person to $5 per person. It doesn't take long for the savings on this benefit to add up to big bucks as well.
When you add this in with discount subscription offer to Texas Parks and Wildlife magazine, an e-newsletter, and 10% discount at any of the state parks stores, it's a deal you just can't beat. The pass is good at all 113 Texas State Parks, as well as the Texas State Historical Sites as well. The Texas State Parks Pass is a program that should be utilized by everyone in the state who enjoys the natural beauty of Texas.
So, this year, our family purchased our first Texas State Parks Pass. It's been just over three months, and we've already paid for ours with the benefits we have received. We've participated in one day trip to a local state park, and had two camping trips, with a total of four nights of overnight camping. Between saving the entrance fees and the 50% off one night for each trip, we've already come out ahead.
So, what's next? We're planning lot's of additional day trips, as well as some weekend camping sprees. After all, what have we got to lose? We're ahead of the game, and learning to love and support our beautiful state.
